Module 1 Foundation

Yin Yoga is equal parts body and spirit - melding physical sensation, tissue stimulation, and mobility with mindfulness, presence, and subtle body awareness.  Yin Yoga can help us nurture, illuminate, support, and inspire every layer of our being.  Whether you are a teacher or practitioner, this training invites you to explore this transformative practice - helping you build a sustainable and compassionate practice for yourself and your students.

This training is woven throughout with functional yoga, trauma informed yoga and meditation practices, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
  • Dive deeply into the principle practices of Yin Yoga to help you create a transformational, supportive and personalized Yin Yoga experience for yourself and your students.
  • Experience Yin Yoga as a deeply meditative practice that can strengthen your present moment awareness and explore how you can apply this in daily life to be happier, healthier, and more connected to the world around you.
  • Explore the tissues targeted in the practice and some of the related research and science behind the benefits of Yin Yoga.  Discuss basic functional anatomy of the body and how this supports overall health and wellness.
  • Explore how we can work with our subtle energy body - meridians and organ theory, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) 5 Element Theory - to help support health and wellness (physical, mental, emotional, subtle).
  • Learn how to individualize the poses and your practice - exploring a wide range of possible adaptations, modifications,  prop usage, and alternatives to insure your practice is accessible, sustainable, and meets your personal needs.
  • Discuss the benefits of each pose, areas of focus, effective cueing for leading yourself and/or others, visual demonstrations, safety precautions, and variations and propping to help meet diverse practitioner needs.
  • Gain experience practicing and leading Yin Yoga practices using poses, props, timing, cues, voice, breath work, and meditation by participating in a variety of small group activities to help you learn how to effectively lead yourself and/or others in a Yin Yoga practice.
  • Learn basic sequencing techniques to help jumpstart your practice and create supportive and powerful practices.
  • Discuss tips and techniques for teaching along with authentic business practices, both online and in person.
  • Explore guided breath and meditation practices to support yourself and your students in diving deeper into Yin Yoga as a mindful movement meditation.
  • Engage in a supportive, engaging, informative, and inspired group environment with opportunities for individual and group experiential learning and sharing. To support this, enrollment is limited to 10 participants per training.
  • Receive a full color electronic training manual with unlimited updates (over 150 pages of reference material)
  • Sample over 190 Yin Yoga classes online through Aprille's YouTube channel to use as references or to support your practice experience.
  • Enjoy a sampling of practices with Aprille (during the training) followed by discussions about teaching techniques and methodologies.
  • RYTs can submit course to Yoga Alliance to receive 40 CEUs.
  • Certification of Completion upon full attendance AND completion of assignments each day.

What people are saying about this training...

I'm so grateful to have found this Yin Yoga training with Aprille. She managed to strike just the right balance of interesting and fun, while hitting all the right notes for a valuable education I can put into practice right away! So much was packed into our two weekends together, yet she made sure to include time to reflect and ask questions throughout. You can tell from the training that she's passionate about what she teaches, not only during the training itself, but before and after as well. This was truly great and accessible for anyone looking to teach Yin or wanting to deepen their personal practice. I look forward to taking Module 2!     Joelle M., Germany

I learned so many new techniques and deeper knowledge of Yin Yoga which I have been practicing and teaching since 2018.  Aprille is so passionate with teaching and with Yin Yoga and is so willing to pass on all the knowledge she can. The course was well organized, the material very comprehensive and informative. Thank you Aprille for your willingness to share your immense knowledge with all.  You are a true yogi.
I am looking forward to taking part in your course yin yoga part two.
Thank you.     M.A.

Thank you for holding such a lovely space. You have attracted some people with great energy which is a testament to your teaching. I’m so glad I did the training with you, especially as you are discerning about reflecting on whether saying/doing things is appropriate/cultural appropriation - it’s so important in yoga now that we understand these concepts better to actively consider it in our teaching of a tradition we have been gifted from another culture.     R.Y., U.K.

I was incredibly nervous going into the first day of training. I am not a yoga teacher. I was questioning if I was qualified to take the training. That fear dissolved very quickly. Aprille makes the training comfortable and accessible for all levels.

This training has given me a deeper appreciation for Yin. I am now approaching my own practice very differently ( I might actually *enjoy* saddle pose now!). I'm coming away with much more compassion for myself and my body.

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Aprille outside of YouTube. I'm grateful for all that I have learned over the last two weekends, but also all of Aprille's content on YouTube and her member site. The video content and manual will provide a great deal of support as I deepen my practice and share with others.      Melissa T.

I have been practicing Yin yoga with Aprille via her YouTube channel, The Yoga Ranger, for around 3 years. Again and again, I would come back to her soothing voice. When I saw that she was offering a Yin Yoga Teacher Training, I jumped on it despite the huge time difference. I first asked if she could start a little earlier so that I wouldn't have to stay up till 2am and to my surprise, she offered to start an hour earlier which made all the difference.
Aprille is extremely knowledgeable (check her website for her credentials). But more importantly, she is talented at teaching. The information was spaced out deliberately and with much thought to our alertness and sometimes to our emergency appointments. Breaks were also appropriate and very punctual. What we learned was invaluable. She shared so much about her behind-the-scenes preparation; we were all dumbfounded how much effort she puts into it.
The course handbook was detailed to the point I only needed to write a few notes here and there. It was full of pictures and pose variations and meridians. I learned so much and it was just the right amount of technical vs. practical.
During the course, we had 3 assignments to teach to the other participants and for someone who has never taught, it was a daunting task. Aprille offered the kindness and support needed to boost my confidence and believe in myself to the point I was no longer apprehensive.
And finally, we had a final to do. Aprille responded the very next day asking how my name should appear on the certificate and it was emailed to me the following day.
If you are considering signing up for any one of her workshops...DO IT! Don't miss out on a chance to work with someone who teaches from the heart, who pours her soul into preparing the material and her classes, and is simply an awesome human being.    Halla, Saudi Arabia

The course was very well structured in terms of content. It was particularly helpful to have received the manuscript for the course beforehand, so I was able to prepare well. Every single yin yoga position was discussed, with variations for different physical limitations. As a future teacher, I found it particularly important to discuss my own attitude and linguistic expression with all participants. I found the information on setting up a Yin Yoga class extremely good. Above all, the practical exercises in breakout groups were very helpful. I highly recommend this course for anyone who would like to give Yin Yoga lessons. Thank you very much, Aprille.     B.L.

Thank you so much for such a rich and comprehensive program! I appreciated the in depth review of poses and the focus on how to offer variations to make the practice accessible to more students: your approach helped me deepen my skill to teach people, not the shapes. I appreciated the extra discussion on trauma and cultural appropriation. I am referring to the resources provided constantly as I continue to enrich both my personal practice and teaching.      Jami T.

Aprille makes it feel so effortless.   I felt during the whole process an energy of inspiration, flow and support.  The structure and depth of the manual, execution and sharing was received in an expansive way, for me to understand clearly and apply it.  The training was so nurturing and inspiring, that I feel I can create from an authentic place, going deeper into what I brought to the table from being a Dance Educator and Therapist myself.     Flavia S.

I learned a lot from the resources supplied and was able to follow along even with it being all online. It was a lot of information that I am still absorbing but appreciated the handouts so I can keep coming back to the materials. The break out sessions were great ways to meet new people and get feedback on my teaching.     M. Faller
